Programs & workshops

Our programs and workshops make plant knowledge practical and engaging, sparking curiosity while strengthening connections with the natural world.

Tree tours & nature walks

The forest is closer than you think.

You don’t need to escape to the wilderness to experience nature; it’s woven into your city. Street trees, schoolyards, and local parks hold stories of science, history, and culture. A guided tree walk is a way to learn, connect, and see your surroundings with new eyes.

Every walk is unique.

Each tour is tailored to your season, group, and location. Whether you’re a gardener seeking inspiration, a classroom exploring science outdoors, or a group looking for a fresh way to connect, there’s something here for you.

Example tour themes:

  • There are approximately 370 different species of trees planted in the City of Vancouver alone, originating from all over the world. Travel to far flung destinations and connect to cultures through the amazing variety of trees.

  • Tap into broader urban forestry themes such as tree diversity, climate-ready species, and urban green infrastructure.

  • A deep dive into the research on the role trees play in physical and mental health from temperature regulation and improving air quality to improved birth outcomes and increased well-being.

Nature is a classroom waiting outside your doors.

Schoolyards often hold mature trees — permanent fixtures that outlast garden beds and provide lasting learning opportunities. They’re aesthetic anchors, sources of shade, and living examples of the ecosystems we depend on.

Tree identification made accessible.

A guided tour equips teachers with practical tools: how to identify species, how to teach with storytelling, and how to connect cultural context with science.
